Just a year ago, in February 2024, we launched Grass Roots of Wigan (GRoW) with a mission to empower local communities. Yesterday, we celebrated our first anniversary by hosting our fourth Conversations and Cash event at Fur Clemt, a community hub dedicated to reducing food waste and supporting local residents.
We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve awarded £1,395 to support six fantastic community projects right here in Wigan:
• Greenslate Allotments: £200 for community events. https://www.facebook.com/share/15pLj6rK9s/?mibextid=wwXIfr
• Wigan & Leigh Hospice: £245 to provide bereavement books for children.
• Brighter, Better Orrell: £250 for workshops teaching about litter.
• FROGS Nature Reserve at Orrell Waterpark: £200 to replace a gate.
• Sunshine House: £250 to build a ‘yellow brick road’ path to their workshop shed, boosting community trading.
• Remade Wigan: £250 for van hire and transport to help women upcycle furniture.
It’s truly inspiring to see these grassroots projects come to life, from supporting children during challenging times to creating green spaces and promoting sustainability. These initiatives strengthen our community, and we’re proud to play a part in their journey.
A massive thank you to everyone who joined us, pitched their ideas, and made the event such a success. We can’t wait to see what these projects achieve next. Let’s follow their progress by visiting our forum, where we’ll see regular updates and photos as the projects develop.
